Custom segments allows you to create subsets of users based per user attributes. This characteristic allows you to compare performance from one subset with another. I.e. you wish to segment based on user spend, geography, sessions or time played.
This makes custom segments a powerful analytical tool with the possibilities of bucketing users based on unique definitions that fits your game.
How does it work?
In segments you can build definitions based on basic include and exclude statements. Once your statements are in order you select a timeframe for which you wish to run your segment query. When the segment is processed you can view a separate report per segment with a collection of the most essential metrics.
An important distinction is that all calculations are per user.
You can always go back and edit your segment if you wish to refine the statements or select a new timeframe. When changes are made to an already processed segment it needs to be reprocessed in order to update the results.
There is no limit to the number of statements, number of edits or how often you wish to run a segment.
Each statement will have to contain a metric or a dimension plus an operator and value. I.e spend per day greater than $10 and less than $100 defines all user that spend between $10 and $100 per day. Please note that the different metrics are summed daily.
You can have multiple statements in both includes and excludes. The values inside each statement apply an ‘or’ function whereas in between statements uses an ‘and’ function.
Once you have created your segment you need to select a timeframe for which the report is processed and process. The max. period per segment is 180 days. Each segment has its own report with key top level performance metrics – covering user metrics, engagement and monetization.
All segments can be edited allowing for changes to both statements and the timeframe processed. Please note that if a specific timeframe is key to a segment you can lock that the timeframe when editing.
